Now let’s get into it. Is it worth it to move to Dallas, TX, and the short answer is yes, but you may need to think a little bit more about it. I’m a little biased since I did grow up in Texas. I actually grew up a couple of hours South of Dallas in a small town called Stephenville, but I moved to Texas as soon as I could because I wanted to be close to it. I was always attracted to it. I will say that I think Dallas is the most well rounded city I’ve ever lived in.
I’ve lived in Chicago, New York, Pittsburgh, and New Orleans, so I have been around the country and lived in each of those cities for at least a year. I have experienced other cities, and I would say that they are not as well rounded as Texas or as Dallas in my opinion, because Chicago was a little too cold for me. Very cold in the winter, and that’s the same for New York as well. There were always snow storms coming in and the traffic was crazy. Pittsburgh however I don’t have a lot to complain about. It’s a Great Northern city, my favorite northern city actually, but there are a lot of Hills, and if you don’t like to park or drive on Hills, then there are some pretty steep ones there. It also gets pretty cold during the winter. New Orleans is a great city as well ! Very, very humid, if that’s something that you’re not a fan of, but still a great city.
Let’s get into Dallas. I do have experience and I wanted to share that a bit, because I didn’t want you to think I was just going to talk about Dallas the entire time without any other outside experience. If you’re moving here and you’re thinking about moving your business to Texas, it’s very business friendly, and there are a lot of programs that you can take advantage of in particular, especially if you’re a veteran. There are several veteran programs, and they are also extremely business friendly. You can check those out on the Secretary of State website, and there are several programs they have, especially when it comes to veterans. They offer different entrepreneurship programs, and we actually have another video that will be linked in the description of this video about the benefits for veterans if you’re moving to Texas. But again, very business friendly.
Concerning the current situation with coronavirus that’s going on, this is something you might want to consider because right now, Texas wants to have its businesses open, so whether you’re comfortable with that, that’s something you might want to consider if you want to keep your business open and you want to take those precautions yourself. Texas is much more helpful with this than other states, and a lot of people still don’t know about this, which I find very surprising. There is no state income tax here, and that can be a huge savings for you, especially if you’re from someplace like New York or California. It’s a tremendous benefit and a savings to your income if you just make that transition, especially now if your business is on line or you’re able to work remotely, then you can take advantage of the no state income tax. I will say this as a downside though. They make that up a little bit with property tax, so depending on what school district you live in or the size of your house or the amount you buy it for the property taxes, you know you could get a little out of hand with those property taxes sometimes, so just be mindful of that and make sure that you before you purchase, you understand that the tax bill will be a little higher on your property and there will be no state income tax.
If you’re moving here with a job or for a job, Dallas is probably one of the most stable economies as a city, and that really falls into the job market. On top of that, real estate has not really been effective in a negative way during this entire pandemic. We’ve seen several market crashes like in 2007 or 2008 and some of it was still felt during that economic impact, but a lot of the house prices were not that drastically overpriced as compared to Miami, California, New York, and others where you saw people lose 5060 and even 70% of their home values. So even during those time frames, Dallas has been very stable with the job market. In particular, we look at coronavirus in the year of 2020, and Dallas, despite everything that happened, was still pretty stable period a lot of people were able to transition to online very easily because of the infrastructure here and everything that the state has helped businesses do. So if you’re looking for something that’s just more stable as far as the economy and the job market, Dallas has been in the top 10 for one of the best job markets in the country. Finding a job here should be a lot easier compared to other places.
On top of that, because your cost of living is lower than other places, That will help you out in finding a job. You’ll be able to keep your expenses down, and therefore, find something more reasonable. It also expands your options if you’re not able to find something as high paying as maybe you would in California and New York, but at the same time, because of the economy and because of the cost of living, then it’s going to equal out.
Another really big benefit of living in Dallas and why it’s worth it to move here is because of the airport. I’ll tell you what, I like to travel period several of my friends like to travel for both business and pleasure, and I tried to travel as much recreationally as possible, but there are several options out of Dallas Fort Worth that are very inexpensive to places like Florida the Caribbean Mexico and places like that. Those are some of my favorite places to go an adventure. They have flights every single day that are direct and very inexpensive, so I think it’s a great way to take advantage of that.
If you’re a business traveler, Dallas is really the center of the country, so if you’re traveling for business going to California or New York, it’s a much shorter trip than going from coast to coast. Getting to Florida or Chicago is also really short period Chicago is only a 2-hour flight, and sometimes I do day trips there were all fly in the morning and fly back in the evenings. It makes it very easy to get anywhere. Some of my favorite spots are also the Caribbean and that is a short flight as well. Just another really great reason to move to Dallas.
Unfortunately, we don’t have the beach nearby or any mountains, so we take advantage of the lakes. There are several lakes that are very close to Dallas. There is even white rock lakes in the center of Dallas, and you’ve also got Louisville, Lake Grapevine, Lake Joe, pool Lake, Ann Lake Ray Hubbard. All of these are within about 10 to 20 minutes of Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex, depending on which direction you’re driving. So that’s something you can take advantage of if you love to boat, water ski, Cliff jump, all those types of outdoor activities. There are some really great bike trails around the Lake that and that’s like life here in Dallas. 20 minutes in any direction to get you to a Lake where you can have a lot of fun and really enjoy the outdoors.
That will bring us to our last point. I told you to stick around to the end! By far the best part of Dallas is the Tex Mex barbecue. You’ll find it everywhere here, and I know that you will find something that you can enjoy here. There are countless an endless restaurants with amazing Tex Mex food and barbecue, some of the best barbecue joints in the country. There are some really great local spots that I know in the area, and I live in old East Dallas. There are a lot of mom-and-pop shops with some Hispanic people that have moved there (so you’re getting some seriously authentic food), and also with these restaurants, there are some great food options when it comes to Tex Mex and barbecue, the best in the country. It would be absolutely worth it to move to Dallas, TX.
