Rockwall Texas EXPLAINED | Living in Rockwall Texas | Dallas Texas Suburb
Rockwall, Texas is the PERFECT place for a lake lover (and someone who enjoys incredible sunsets!), so if that’s you, it’s time to learn more about this amazing suburb of Dallas.
WHERE IS ROCKWALL, TEXAS?
Rockwall is just about 20 minutes from Downtown Dallas and is a straight shot on I-30. It’s a good distance for someone who may be commuting to work. Rockwall is right off of Lake Ray Hubbard, and as you probably know, we Texans LOVE our lake life. Lake Ray Hubbard is about 35 square miles, and it’s just beautiful. There’s lots of lake activities to do there, including biking, hiking, and, of course, all the boating activities that everyone seems to enjoy.
FUN FACTS ABOUT ROCKWALL
Another great thing about Rockwall is that it’s a bit hilly, which is a nice contract from a lot of Dallas, which can be pretty flat. I think that hilliness gives the landscape some variety and livens up the drive, so if you like those hills, Rockwall is where you’ll find them in the Dallas area. Not only that, but you also have the beautiful Dallas architecture in the background, especially when you get on top of some of those hills. It’s a big reason why the sunsets are so amazing here, too. You just have some great views here because of the landscape here in Rockwall.
In my vlog tour (which you definitely want to watch if you haven’t already – you can get to that post HERE), we walk through the Harbor District, which is a cool spot where there are a lot of restaurants and shops, as well as a gorgeous harbor, where you can look out on the lake. They are also creating the Sapphire Bay resort right now, which will be a huge development with a massive fountain in the center, white sandy beaches, condos and apartments, hotels, and more. It’s an incredible resort that will be stationed right here in Rockwall, so I’m looking forward to seeing that come to fruition here in 2023, which is when they anticipate it being completed. The Crystal Lagoon is what that portion will be called, and if it’s anything like the concept art that has been released, it’s going to be an absolutely incredible spot to hang out and enjoy the lake.
Another cool history bit about Rockwall is the rock wall itself. The reason it’s called Rockwall is that they discovered this giant rock wall underground that people still can’t figure out where it originated from. Some people speculate that it was aliens, Native Americans, naturally occurring, etc. Wherever it came from, it’s definitely a cool attraction here, and it’s fun to speculate where this amazing wall actually came from. The oldest house in Rockwall is still located near the rock wall, so that’s still standing, which is pretty cool.
FEATURES IN ROCKWALL
You’ve got some pretty good high schools here in Rockwall as well, which is a big draw from families in this area. The housing prices kind of range from about $300,000 to a little over $1,000,000, so there really is something for everyone in every budget in Rockwall. The population right now is just over 43,000, so it kind of has that small-town vibe, but it’s really growing and developing at the moment. Obviously, as some of these big projects get completed, the region is going to grow quite a bit, which is all the more reason to secure a great home.
In the vlog video, I showed you several of the homes in these different price ranges, and one thing they all had in common was the view. The lake is so close to Rockwall, and all of them were within a short distance of the lake. The $600,000-$1,000,000 homes were actually right on the lake for the most part, and the sunsets and the views of the lake were just unbelievable. You’ll find quite a few properties, including some new constructions, that have these types of unbelievable views all over Rockwall.
